About Us

WHAT'S OUR GOAL

Little Monkeys offers a Play School and After School service in the Glasnevin, Finglas, Meakstown, Charlestown and Ballymun area. We started with one unit on Glasnevin Avenue before expanding to two directly across the road from us. We have been servicing families in the Dublin 11 and Dublin 9 region for over 7 years.

When we opened on Glasnevin Avenue in Finglas, the parents quickly took us into their hearts and have greatly supported us since. Our unique and creative based approach to early learning stimulates and engages the child in a fun and effective way.

We love investing our energy, time and passion into children and enjoy nothing more than watching and helping them in their development. So if you are looking for a playschool or after school in Finglas, Ballymun or Glasnevin. that helps your child grow into the wonderful person that they are, come to Little Monkeys Glasnevin.

A Message from Carol

Little Monkeys was founded in August 2013. As a mother of four, I wanted to combine motherhood with my enjoyment of seeing children learn, grow and progress while becoming ready to start “big school”.

We opened with 2 staff and availability for 11 children, but only five children enrolled, one of which was my own son. The business grew quickly and over the Easter holidays in 2017 we expanded to cater for 22 children and an extra staff member. With the business continuing to grow in 2017 we bought the premises across the road and established a setting for 30 preschool children and 22 afterschool children, and we now have a staff of 10.

My aim for all the children attending Little Monkeys is to work with them to make friends, develop skills, learn about the world and understand their emotions. I want them to leave us feeling happy, confident, and excited about what comes next.

WHAT WE OFFER

Learning

Little Monkeys Playschool is a child-centred, play-based environment, where each child is supported and encouraged to have fun as they learn.

  • We are a professional, qualified, and caring team. We aim to provide a safe, secure, and fun environment for your child to grow and develop, in preparation for primary school. We have an open door policy.
  • We follow a child-led emerging curriculum, using a play based approach. This is informed by Aistear the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework.
  • We understand children develop through play, as this is how children interact and learn about the world around them, both indoors and outdoors.
  • At Little Monkeys we believe in an inclusive approach to learning, welcoming all children and working in partnership with all families. We believe every child has ability and develops at their own pace.
  • Our curriculum promotes the holistic development of every child. We aim to foster independence, self-belief, social skills, and problem solving abilities.
  • Your child’s learning journey is documented through both observations and the compilation of a learning journal which are shared with the child and parents.

Playing

  • The Early Childhood Care and Education Programme (ECCE) programme is a universal two-year pre-school programme available to all children within the eligible age range. Children are eligible to start the ECCE scheme in the September of the year that they turn 3 years old.
  • It provides children with their first formal experience of early learning prior to commencing primary school. The programme is provided from 9.30-12.30, three hours per day, five days per week over 38 weeks per year and the programme year runs from September to June each year.

Painting

  • Little Monkeys provides breakfast club and early morning drop off to local schools (subject to demand).
  • We then collect children from school and bring them back to the afterschool service .
  • A homework club operates, where staff are able to assist and help as necessary.
  • Nutritious snacks are provided.
  • Children have the opportunity to relax and socialise, take part in games, enjoy arts and crafts and play in the secure outdoor area.
  • Halloween, Easter and Summer Camps
